University of Lugano

A young and dynamic University with an international and personalised learning environment

The Università della Svizzera italiana, USI (also known as the University of Lugano), is a small, young and dynamic University founded in 1996, and is constantly growing both in size and in the courses offered. Today 2’852 students and 743 academic staff from over 100 countries create an environment rich in exchange, knowledge and personal relations. USI is a full member of the Swiss public university system and comprises four Faculties: Architecture in Mendrisio, Communication Sciences, Economics and Informatics in Lugano.  Thanks to the combination of continuous research and advanced teaching methods, courses are constantly reviewed and improved upon to keep up with the times.  This is particularly true of all the 17 Master programmes which prepare students effectively through solid theoretical teaching that is integrated into the practical lessons.

Mission

The Faculties all offer innovative and interdisciplinary Masters and PhDs in English. The programmes adopt an interdisciplinary approach to learning, linking the theoretical knowledge acquired in the lecture room with the world outside and the challenges which arise in it. USI Master degrees in fact take on board the latest outcomes of research, together with cutting edge knowledge emerging from collaborations with the industry.
